Is it so cliche of me to say where has the time gone? or how did this summer go by in a blink of an eye? or how is Tanner already almost four months old? Well, I seriously can’t believe we are already a week into September and long days, loose schedules and many hours logged at the beach or pool have all been traded for early mornings, packed lunches and everything related to back to school.
This summer was truly great in so many ways. Of course the birth of Tanner in May was the best thing that happened this year, but in addition getting settled in our new home was a big positive change for our family. Don’t get me wrong having a newborn, two other young kids, and little to no help during the week hasn’t been a total walk in the park, but all those feelings of uncertainty in the beginning of the year have been replaced with a sense of stability even amongst the craziness of having three kids under five. Six months ago we had no idea what it would be like to have three children and be outnumbered. We also did not know where we would be living.. and if we would be without a home when Tanner was born (I seriously kept saying I don’t want to be living at the Holiday Inn and go into labor!) To say we started out this year stressed is an understatement. Then everything kind of fell into place right as the weather got warm and summer kicked off. We spent just about every weekend out at the beach with family and everyday back in Katonah was filled with friends, playdates and lots of fun.
Our days and evenings were jam packed with plans and even sleepless nights up with Tanner simply became routine. While it was a bit chaotic and most days ended with me “needing” a glass of rose, I really cherished all the time I had with the kids at home together. Kingsley and Ford spent 80% of the time as best friends (20% as worst enemies…hence the wine.) They would play for hours at a time outside exploring every nook and cranny of their new yard while I sat on the porch nursing Tanner. On days we spent out in Southampton or Quogue we would pack the whole family up and head to the ocean for hours on end. We really are in our groove when we are in the sun and sand and this summer included plenty of it.
Now, we are back home in Katonah and trying to get back on some sort of schedule. Kingsley had her first day of kindergarten last week and Ford starts preschool tomorrow. This is my first blog post in over a month and one of the only days since Tanner was born that I am managing to work on getting some new jewelry designs started. My blog had even gone missing for a few weeks in August (don’t even ask me how these things happen because if I understood it, it probably wouldn’t have gotten lost in cyber space to begin with!) and it all didn’t seem to matter then because I really just wanted to not be stressed this summer. But, now it’s definitely back to reality. You will notice lots more blog posts and hopefully a lot of new Madame Mathilde jewelry in the upcoming months now that Kingsley and Ford will both be in school.
And even though the official end of summer is near, I am still holding onto fabulous dresses like this one from She in. Anything to remind me of endless days at the beach will still be in rotation until it gets way too cold. Even then maybe throwing on a pair of jeans underneath is the way to go! Until then I am going to soak up a few more rays and begin my next post rounding up my favorite Spring/Summer 2018 trends from NYFW. Wait, did someone say Summer?
