This week was nothing short of stressful. Last Thursday, I woke up to find my website disappeared! Yup, it was gone. I have been working with the same web developer since I started Girl With The Necklace, and while she hasn’t tackled everything on my to do list, she at least has been responsive. This week however she too disappeared. I was baffled to say the least when the email I sent her bounced back saying that the address no longer existed. Then I tried Facebook messaging her and she had also seemed to no longer exist on social media. Then I checked her company website, and it too was gone! At this point, I started to think our whole interaction for the past 6 months was a scam and that I was (enter explicit choice word here.) I had no clue where to start on how to get it back and I just felt lost.
Thankfully, after a few nice phone calls to customer service at every company that I knew to be associated with the back end of my site, I started to learn a little bit more about the details of web hosting. This is something I pretty much overlooked because it had been taken care of by my houdini web developer. I started kicking myself. Why hadn’t I paid attention to the details? I had no clue where my site had been hosted this whole time and no knowledge of any passwords to access it. I was able to speak to some very nice people who started to explain everything to me, and explain that since I did not have a password to access the host site there was nothing they could do. At a last ditch effort I started googling every little detail associated with my site, the web developers site and her hosting site to see if I could unearth some hidden answer. I have no idea how to explain how I was able to find out the other sites that had been hosted by her and where they were now, but I was. Then I was able to trace who currently was holding these sites and it led me to a web design company based overseas. I immediately reached out to them and to my surprise they knew who I was and that they had my site! They proceeded to tell me that my web person would use them to outsource work here and there, and that a week ago she contacted them to take over the hosting of all of her client’s websites because she was heading to India to “find herself.” Long story short, they had no clue my site was not working and that I had not been given their contact info. They then were able to hand over all the needed info to transfer the site to me. I am still working out some of the kinks, but by some miracle I was able to find it. The irony has not been lost on me that I spent days searching google, while the web developer has been spending her time soul searching, but I now learned my lesson to pay attention to details.
It may seem a bit arbitrary to go from business details to pleated details, but what the heck! Pleated details were everywhere last season and they are certainly here to stay this year, and after a stressful few days the thought of wearing this amazing dress while on vacation is helping me find my happy self in the craziness of this week. It goes without saying these layered, pleated bell sleeves certainly make a statement and were well worth the inexpensive price tag. The white backdrop also lent itself as the perfect backdrop for this one of a kind statement necklace I made with a vintage rhinestone bow detail. There are so many great options out there for Spring when it comes to pleated details so I have listed a few of my other favorites below:
1.Goodnight Macaroon Pleated Layered Top |2. Zacro Shift Dress with Asymetrical Pleats | 3. Y.A.S. Julia Pleated Skirt Dress | 4. Asos Deep V Pleated Midi Dress | 5. Phillipe Model Pleated Sneakers | 6. Zaful Metallic Pleated Skirt | 7. French Connection Eliza Drop Waist Dress
Hoping you all find what you are looking for this week!
