Now that the dust has settled from New York Fashion Week and the fashion elite are on the other side of the pond and have already attended London Fashion Week and now Milan it has become clear which trends will be making the biggest impact for Spring 2017. As a mom of two who lives in the suburbs it is not always easy to dress like what you see on the runway. I mean come on, if I threw on a crop top bra under a blazer with some wide leg pants they would likely not let me into school to pick up my children. That being said, recently it appears many designers have been designing their ready to wear collections as literally “ready to wear” rather than being toned down when they hit the shelves for the masses. There are a lot of trends this coming season that will be easy to purchase and easy to mimic with items that may already be in your closet. And don’t get me wrong if I looked like a twenty year old runway model maybe I would walk around in a bra top, but I don’t, so that look is not something I will be focusing on while shopping for spring 2017!
Here are my top five trends for spring 2017 that I will be purchasing pieces for now. Find my favorite runways looks and real life buys below:
1.Off the Shoulder and the Updated Oxford Shirt: Off the Shoulder tops are nothing new, but for Spring it appears only leaving one exposed is the new update. Your typical button down has been reconstructed every way imaginable with the sleeves and buttons ending up every which direction and the more ruffles the better it seems. I love this trend because it is so easy to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe. We can all pull off a cold shoulder button down and it also does not mean that we can’t wear all of the off the shoulder tops we bought last season without still looking on trend.
Runway: Self Portrait, Monse, Self Portrait, Orla Keily
2. Yellow, Yellow and more Yellow: This is an easy one. Yellow showed up everywhere all over the runways and how perfect to incorporate into your wardrobe for fall and use to layer as a pop of color as we head into the colder months ahead. The not so mellow yellow trend is definitely here to stay.
Runway: Jason Wu, Erin Fetherston,Creatures of Comfort, Naheem Kahn, Tibi
3. Frills and Flounce: Some version of a ruffle was seen on a model in almost every show. This feminine accent is already all over stores and is the perfect look to mimic from the high fashion brands.
Runway: Tome, Zimmerman, J. Crew, Ula Johnson, Tome
4. Bold Stripes: Whether vertical or horizontal every stripe that went down the runway was certainly bold. When searching for the right stripe print, think rugby shirts and primary colors to score a goal with this trend.
Runway: Carolina Herrera, Milly, Proenza Schouler, Rosie Assoulin, Akris
5. The Statement Earring: And of course my favorite trend I have seen for Spring 2017 is major statement earrings. Tadashi Shoji showed long tassels with every look, which got me so excited as our Madame Mathilde Long and Extra Long Tassels have been our number one sellers going into fall. I also love our Vintage Mina Earrings to add a one-of-a-kind statement. Bigger is better in these books!
